Law Enforcement Automated Feedback

Law Enforcement Automated Feedback Systems was founded by law enforcement personnel who served at the top levels of the nation’s largest police department. In response to the growing anti-police climate that’s become so prevalent in many communities, LEAF was formed for three primary reasons.

First

When community members call for police service, they deserve to feel confident that responding officers will treat them with the utmost respect and dignity.

Second

The anti-police climate has created an urgent need for a performance metric whereby high-quality service providers—the vast majority of officers—can be acknowledgedand rewarded for their work.

Third

Current policing performance metrics are almost entirely focused on enforcement activities like arrests, tickets, street stops, etc. Therefore, officers operating within the current framework are incentivized to take punitive enforcement actions because that’s all they’re measured by.

The Law Enforcement Automated Feedback system addresses each of these issues.

First

Community members are empowered to provide meaningful feedback about the quality of their interaction with officers which becomes part of the officer’s performance review process.

Second

Officers who consistently provide high-quality service to the community become evident in the performance data and can be acknowledged and rewarded appropriately.

Third

LEAF transforms the current performance paradigm. Instead of incentivizing just enforcement, LEAF incentives officers to increase the public’s perceptions of trust and legitimacy by leaving positive impressions upon police customers.

While not a panacea for the growing divide between police and communities, LEAF offers a relatively inexpensive way of encouraging positive police-community interactions, and takes a step toward healing the rifts that have endured for generations.
